Biography contributed by Clare Cramond

Edith Lizzie Hardinge was the eldest child of Rebecca Alice and George Stewart Fraser. She was born in 1870. They lived in Frasertown for some of the 1880s but her father George died in 1882 aged 31. Her mother Alice was left with three young children.

Edith married Henry de Sailley Hardinge in 1889. She signed both the 1892 and the 1893 Suffrage Petitions giving her address as Gisborne. However, she appears on the 1893 and 1896 Electoral Rolls as living in Taradale, Napier and is listed as a married woman. Her mother Alice Fraser was also on the same Taradale rolls.

There is no further information about Edith Lizzie Hardinge. However, in her brother Harry Stewart Fraser’s probate record, there is reference to his sister Mabel, and his mother Rebecca Alice Fraser who was living in England some years before her death there in 1915. There is no mention of Edith.
