Edith Marion Whetter was born in Bristol, England in 1868 – the only daughter of Jospeh Hatton, a ship owner, and Marion Hanover. (See 68 Marion Hatton)
She came to New Zealand with her family in 1880 on the Waipa and they settled in Dunedin.
Edith married Richard Gill Whetter, a school teacher, on 20 December 1886 in Dunedin – they had one son.
When Edith signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Fox Road in South Dunedin.
They later lived in Taranaki then in Auckland where Edith died on 29 September 1931 and Richard died in 1943.
They are buried together in the Hillsborough Cemetery.
