Edith Mathews was born in 1861 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of John Mathews and Fanny England.
As an infant Edith came to New Zealand with her family and they settled in Dunedin.
Edith married Thomas Simon, a draper, in 1890 and they had 3 children.
When she signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Castle St, Dunedin.
They moved to Invercargill a few years later, then to Timaru before retiring to Christchurch.
Edith died in Christchurch on January 12th 1948. She was cremated.
Thomas died in 1955, also in Christchurch.
