Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Eliza Adams was born about 1849 in Ireland.

She married Henry Otto Brandt, a miner, in 1867 in New Zealand.

They had seven children and lived at Waitahuna in Otago before moving to Dunedin in the early 1880s.

When Eliza signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Bay View Rd and Henry was working as a general dealer.

Eliza died at her home on 21 May 1904.

Henry committed suicide in 1906, while 'temporarily insane' due to money worries.

They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
