Elizabeth Anna Evans was born in England in 1862 – the daughter of brickmaker Richard Evans and Anna Page.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the Tweed and they settled in Dunedin.
Elizabeth married James Chittock, a farmer and widower with two daughters, in 1885.
Elizabeth and James had a further five children and when she signed the suffrage petition they were living at Pukerau, near Gore.
James died at the Tapanui Hospital in 1926 and Elizabeth died at her daughter’s home at Shag Point, north of Dunedin, on 22 May 1939 – they are buried together in the Tapanui Cemetery.
