Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.
Eliza Ann Crawshaw was born about 1840.
It is not clear where or when she married but it was probably in Australia.
Her husband Ashworth was a mason and later a road and railway contractor. They had three children and, by the 1860’s, the family were living in Dunedin.
When Ashworth retired they moved to Auckland where he died in 1889 – he is buried in the Purewa Cemetery.
Eliza returned to Dunedin where she signed the suffrage petition.
She died at her son’s home in George Street on 12 May 1909 – she is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
