Eliza Margaret Wren was born in 1862 in Surrey, England - the daughter of James Timothy Wren, a wheelwright, and Caroline Mitchell.
Eliza emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the James Nicol Fleming with her parents and seven siblings.
She married John Henry Kingsland, a bootmaker, in 1881 and they had three daughters.
When Eliza signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Esk St, Invercargill.
They moved to Christchurch in the 1920s where Eliza died on 24 April 1947 and John died in 1954.
