Eliza Woods was born about 1825. She was married to Thomas Woods who worked as a stage hand and caretaker at the Princess Theatre in Dunedin.

They had at least three children, and their daughters Florence and Cecilia also signed the 1893 suffrage petition. The family lived in High St, Dunedin until Thomas died in 1894.

Eliza and her children moved to South Dunedin then she later lived in Andersons Bay where she died on 18 July 1914. She is buried with Thomas in the Southern Cemetery.
