Elizabeth/Betsy Grant was born about 1842 in Forfarshire, Scotland – the daughter of Peter Grant, a grocer, and Helen Melville.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1857 on the Maori and they settled in West Taieri.
Elizabeth married Alexander Chisholm, a carpenter, on 1 September 1864 and they had eight children.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Outram, West Taieri.
Alexander died in 1912 and Elizabeth died on 2 October 1918, they are buried together in the West Taieri Cemetery.
