Elizabeth Martyn was born about 1848, possibly in Cornwall.
She married Thomas Common in New Zealand in 1878 and they had five children.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Enfield in North Otago.
Elizabeth and Thomas were very involved with the Enfield Methodist Church and two of their children became missionaries.
Elizabeth died at her home on 23 March 1916 and Thomas died in 1919 – they are buried together in the Old Oamaru Cemetery.
