They had two children and lived in the Otago/Southland area where John tried his hand at mining.
After this they moved to Nelson before finally moving to Whanganui around 1877.
They ran a boarding house in Wilson Street where they were living when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition.
She appears to have signed in Dunedin along with her daughter Mary (See 113 Mary Johnston), possibly while on holiday.
After giving up the boarding house they went to live at Fordell, near Whanganui.
She died on 31 July 1914 and is buried with her daughter in the Heads Road Cemetery.
John died in 1917 – he is buried in the Aramoho Cemetery.
