Elizabeth McKay was born about 1846 in Scotland.

She emigrated to New Zealand about 1870 where she married John Cunningham, a surveyor, in 1880.

They lived in Dunedin and had five children, one who died in infancy.

When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Helensburgh Rd, Dunedin.

Elizabeth died at her home on 6 August 1929 and John died in 1934 – they are buried together in the Anderson Bay Cemetery.
