Elizabeth Duckett was born Elizabeth Alderman on 14 December 1845 at Leckford, Hampshire, England to William Alderman and his wife Mary Anne Smith.
Elizabeth Alderman married George Joyce on 5 November 1865 in Southampton, Hampshire, England.
George, Elizabeth and their four children emigrated to New Zealand, departing London on 28 March 1874 and arriving in Lyttelton on 25 July 1874 on the Peeress.
They had three children born in New Zealand.
In 1881 George is recorded as having ½ acre, two–room cottage, Waimate.
George died in Waimate on 27 November 1887 and is buried in the Waimate Old cemetery.
On 17 May 1888 Elizabeth remarried to Joseph Duckett in Waimate.
Elizabeth and Joseph had one son who served in WW1.
For many years the Ducketts were members of the Salvation Army.
Joseph Duckett was an employee of Mr Norton Francis. Mr Francis was a Borough Councillor 1903–1904 and again 1907–1908 and Mayor of Waimate from 1908–1912 and again 1915–1917. He was also a Director of the Waimate Gas Company but had to resign in 1911 due to an amendment to the Municipal Corporations Act.
Elizabeth Duckett died on 26 July 1921, age 76 years in Waimate and is buried in the Waimate Old cemetery, Methodist section, Row 46, Plot 000082.
Joseph Duckett died on 26 December 1929, age 79 years in Waimate and is buried in the Waimate Old cemetery, Methodist section, Row 46, Plot 000081.
