Elizabeth was born around 1844, and later married James Fortune, a carpenter and joiner. In the 1880s they lived in Stanmore, Canterbury. In 1884 a daughter, Merrima  (or Marrina), was born, but she died aged three years. Between 1892 and 1893 they had a shop selling wagons, carts, rocking horses, etc. in Bell St, Whanganui. By 1896 they had settled in Westown, New Plymouth. In his later years James regularly wrote letters to the newspaper on topics relating to Christianity. Widowed in 1913, Elizabeth died in 1924, aged 80 years, and was buried in the Primitive Methodist section of Te Henui Cemetery with her husband.
