Elizabeth Ann Hutching née Taylor was born in Cirencester, Gloucester, England on 11 March 1862, the seventh child of Richard William Taylor, a law-writer and his wife, Hannah Aston Taylor. In early Nov 1883, she emigrated to New Zealand with her elder sister Hannah Cassandra via the ship British King, landing in Napier on the 22nd Dec 1883.

On the 5th Jan 1887, she married, in Napier district, George Reuben Hutching, who had arrived in NZ in 1873 with his parents, siblings, and extended family. That family were settled in Woodville, which is where George and Elizabeth made their home. They had 3 children, Alice Dora, born 1888; Aston Alton Taylor, born 1890 but died as infant; and Ethel Alberta, born 1893.

Elizabeth sadly passed away only a year later, at the age of 31, on the 5th of March 1884 at her home in Woodville. She was buried in the Old Gorge Cemetery, Woodville.
