Elizabeth White was born about 1835, she married James Isteed/Istead, a soldier, in Bombay, India in 1851.
They had two daughters before they travelled to Melbourne with other discharged soldiers in 1854 on the Australia.
A son was born in Victoria before the family sailed for Otago in 1855 on the Gil Blas.
A further eight children were born in New Zealand.
The family lived, at first, at Clarks Flat near Lawrence in the Central Otago Goldfields.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Tapanui, South Otago.
James died in 1902 and Elizabeth died on 21 June 1903, they are buried together in the Tapanui Cemetery.
