Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Keir was born about 1838 in Scotland.

She married Archibald McFarlane in 1860 and they emigrated to Otago in the early 1860s.

They settled in Dunedin where they had five children before Archibald died in 1875 – he is buried in the Southern Cemetery.

Elizabeth remarried in 1879 to Duncan Kerr, a dairyman and when she signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Argyle St, South Dunedin.

Duncan died in 1910 and Elizabeth died at her home on 24 September 1912 – they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
