Elizabeth Wilson was born about 1839 in Scotland. She married John McKinnel on 10 June 1862 in Kelton, Kirkcudbrightshire and soon after they emigrated to New Zealand.
They settled in Southland and had, at least, 13 children.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living at 'Fern Hill' farm at Waikaia.
John died at their home in 1917 and Elizabeth died on 8 December 1926, they are buried together in the Waikaia Cemetery.
