Elizabeth Robertson Taylor was born in 1859 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Taylor and Barbara Joss.
Her father died in 1866 and she married Albert Newman, a gardener, on 24 October 1883 at her mother’s home in Invercargill.
They had five children and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Lennel in Invercargill.
Elizabeth died at her home in Gladstone, Invercargill on 31 January 1918. At the time of her death three of her sons were serving during the First World War.
They all arrived home to Invercargill, Albert died in 1931 - he is buried with Elizabeth in the family grave in the St Johns Cemetery, Invercargill.
