Elizabeth Fowler was born in Yorkshire, England in 1853 – the daughter of John Fowler and Hannah Garlick.
Her father died when she was an infant and she emigrated to Otago with her mother and step father in 1858 on the Nourmahal.
Elizabeth married William Wilson Hall, a barman at her mother’s York Hotel, in Dunedin on 19 December 1873 at the Knox Church manse.
They had four children - the youngest died aged two years while they were living in Timaru.
In 1888 William was charged with failing to contribute to his family’s support.
The following year he was charged again with the same offence – he did not appear and was sentenced to three months prison with hard labour.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living in Lambeth Road, Dunedin.
William died in 1917 – he is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
Elizabeth died on 21 February 1939 at Milton in South Otago – she is buried with her mother and grandmother in the Southern Cemetery.
