Elizabeth Sophia Winslade was born in 1869 in Farnham, Surrey, England – the daughter of Samuel Winslade, an agricultural labourer, and Mary Arundell.
She emigrated to Otago on the Asia in 1874 with her parents and seven siblings.
Elizabeth married William Bendigo Smith, a bootmaker, in 1888 & they had six children.
When she signed the suffrage petition Elizabeth’s family were living in Smith St, Caversham, Dunedin.
William died in 1934 & Elizabeth died on 11 May 1935, they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
