Elizabeth Smith was born about 1835 – she married John Westlake in 1860 in New Zealand.
They lived in Castle St, Dunedin and had seven children.
In the 1860s John ran Westlake’s Hotel in Great King St, until the licence was transferred in 1868.
John filed for bankruptcy in 1869 and he died suddenly in 1883.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was still living in Castle St, Dunedin, she died on 24 February 1893 and is buried with John in the Northern Cemetery.
