Elizabeth Mary Gardiner was born about 1824 in London, England.

She went to Victoria, Australia and had a daughter with John Wheeler in 1862, their marriage cannot be found.

They came to New Zealand and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Andersons Bay Road, Dunedin.

John died in 1893 and Elizabeth died at her daughter’s home on October15 1900. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
