Elizabeth Connell Cummock was born on October 11th 1860 in Glasgow, Scotland – the daughter of Joun Cummock, a cotton spinner, and Jane Watson.

She emigrated to Otago with her family as a young child and they settled in Dunedin.

She married Andrew Watson McLean, a carpenter, on July 28th 1882 in Dunedin. They had 6 children, 2 who died in infancy and early childhood.

When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in St David Street.

She died on June 21st 1912 and Andrew died in 1932. They are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
