Ellen Lee was born about 1848, possibly in Ireland.
She married George Bevis, a labourer, in New Zealand in 1883.
They travelled to Tasmania, where their son William was born in 1885.
George died, in Victoria, in May 1887.
Ellen then travelled back to Dunedin where she had family and gave birth to her second son George in October 1887.
When she signed the suffrage petition Ellen was living in Howe St, Dunedin.
She died on 31 March 1928 and is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
