Elsie Mant was born in 1872 in England – the daughter of George Mant and Emma Cooke. (See 114 Emma Mant)
She emigrated to Wellington with her family in 1875 on the Berar and they settled in Dunedin.
When Elsie signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Clyde St, Roslyn.
She married Henry Alexander Hamer, a builder and gold miner, in 1910 and they had one daughter.
In later life they moved to Auckland where Henry died in and Elsie died on 24 July 1951 – they are buried together in the Waikaraka Cemetery.
