Elsie Hawker was born in 1871 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of James Henry Hawker and Rosanna Calcutt.
She married William Courtney Stentiford, a labourer on 24 May 1888 in Victoria and shortly after their marriage the young couple came to New Zealand.
They settled in Dunedin where William’s family lived and had four children.
When Elsie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Maclaggan St.
Elsie died on 27 November 1922 and William died in 1930, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
