Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Elspeth Crichton was born about 1841 in Berwickshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Crichton, a farmer, and Helen Chisholm.
She emigrated to Otago in the 1860s and she married George Scott, a farmer, on 28 March 1870 in the Woodland Parish.
They had six children and when Elspeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Waitutu, Port Molyneux.
George died in 1898 and Elspeth died at her home on 20 December 1932, they are buried together in the Romahapa Cemetery.
