Emily Isabella Costello was born in Ireland, the daughter of John Costello of Moneymore, Co Tyrone. Emily migrated to New Zealand some time before her marriage to John Joseph Boden Blakemore, a printer. She was 22 years old when she married.
The Blakemores lived in Tory St, central Wellington and had one son, Herbert, who was killed in action at Passchendaele in 1917.
Emily died in 1910 in the Wairarapa after a long illness.
