The 1893 electoral roll confirms domestic duties Selwyn.
Biography contributed by Joyce Rapley
Emily Rapley was a twin born on 4 March 1892 in Christchurch to parents William and Kezia (nee Marsh) Rapley.
Unfortunately, Emily’s twin sister Lucy died at only four weeks of age. William and Kezia’s large family lived out in the country in Brookside where William farmed and also kept a very tidy garden. Following the death of her father William in 1900 Kezia and Emily moved to first St Alban’s then on to Linwood, both give their occupations as ‘domestic duties’.
On 21 March 1907 Emily married Arthur Hebb Milner a gardener who was born in New Zealand in May 1870, and they had one daughter Ellen Kezia born in January 1911.
Emily died on 26 December 1937 aged 65 years, Arthur lived a further five years dying in July 1942 aged 72 years. They are both buried in the Bromley Cemetery.
