Emily Caroline Barker was born in 1873 in Cromwell, Central Otago – the daughter of Jesse Barker, a miner, and Mary Eliza Herring.
Emily married Ernest Uriah Scott, a miner, in 1892 in Cardrona and they had three daughters.
In the 1900s the family moved to Dunedin where Ernest worked as a gardener.
Ernest died in 1944 and Emily died on 27 January 1949, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
