Emily Grace Davies was born in 1860 in Sydney, Australia – the daughter of Edmund Henry Davies and Caroline Matilda Griffiths.

She married James Wallace, a butcher, in New Zealand in 1880. They had eight children and, when Emily signed the suffrage petition, they were living in Dalry St, Mornington, Dunedin.

Emily died on 8 May 1909 and James died in 1937. They are buried with their son in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
