Emma Louise Callon (nee Harris) was born on 3 March 1849 in the industrial town Aston, Birmingham (England). Her parents were Alfred Harris, a gun barrel maker, and Charlotte Harris (nee Lowe).

In 1865 Emily married Richard Callon, a Caster. After living in Glasgow, London, and America, the couple settled in Ravensbourne, Dunedin in September 1879. Here Richard started an Iron foundry business, Callon and Wilkinson, and became involved in local politics. Emma had ten children: five Boys and five girls, who enjoyed social and sporting activities.

Emma died on 23 April 1921 and is buried with Richard at Andersons Bay Cemetery (as Emily).
