Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Emma Hales was born in 1872 in Queenstown, Otago – the daughter of Walter Hales, a tile and brick maker and Millicent Meadon. (See 107 Millicent Hales)

She was living with her family in Queenstown when she signed the suffrage petition.

Emma married Michael Angelo, a farmer, in 1898 and they had five children.

Michael later worked for the Lake Wakatipu Steam Shipping Company as a deck hand, he died in 1947 and Emma died in February 1955.

They are buried together in the Queenstown Cemetery.
