Emma Stutley was born about 1828 in London.

She emigrated to Tasmania, Australia in 1855 on the Donald McKay and she married Peter Jones, a labourer on 9 February 1857 at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Hobart.

They had three children before they sailed for Otago in the mid 1860s and a further four children after their arrival.

The family settled in Milton where Emma signed the suffrage petition.

Emma died on 5 August 1893 in Milton and Peter died in 1903, in Dunedin – they are buried in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
