Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Emma Wood was born in 1870 in Western Australia – the daughter of William Henry Wood, a farm manager & carpenter, and Comfort Blythe. (See 103 C Wood)

She sailed to Bluff with her family in 1888 on the Maroroa and they settled in East Chatton before moving to Gore.

Emma married William Kirk in 1892 and they had six children.

She signed the suffrage petition in Gore where they lived for all their lives.

William died in 1947 and Emma died at her home on 8 November 1949 – they are buried together in the Gore Cemetery.
