Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Emma Kezia Smythe was born about 1845, possibly in Australia, - the third daughter of George Arthur Smythe, a carpenter.

She married Duncan Matheson, a carpenter, on 3 January 1865 in the Queenstown Episcopal Church and they had seven children.

When Emma signed the suffrage petition the family were still living in Queenstown.

Duncan died in nearby Frankton Hospital in 1899, he is buried in the Queenstown Cemetry.

Emma died in December 1910, her place of death and burial are unknown.
