Emma Isabella Sawers was born in Dunedin in 1875 – the daughter of George Sawers and Jane Tompson.
When she signed the suffrage petition Emma was living with her family in Sunnydale, North East Valley.
She married John Buchan in 1924 – John was a fish curer and a widower with six children.
John died in 1926 – he is buried with his first wife and family in the Northern Cemetery.
Emma died on 13 March 1934 – she is buried with her sister Florence in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
