Emma Taylor was born about 1855. She married Matthew Taylor, a farmer, (no known relation) in 1887 in New Zealand – they had one son.

When Emma signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Riverside near Port Molyneux.

In 1913 Emma and Matthew retired from farming and went to live in Balclutha, they were 'made the recipients of two easy chairs from their friends and former neighbours at Riverside.'

Emma died on 1 August 1915 at her home in Balclutha & Matthew died in 1921, they are buried together in the Balclutha Old Cemetery.
