Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Emma Hunt was born about 1835 in Birmingham, England – the daughter of William Hunt, a jeweller, and Emma Thornton.

Emma appears to have had three children with gunsmith William Davis in the 1860s. In 1871 she was living with Isaac Whiting working as a housekeeper. Also living with her was her daughter Martha (See 40 Martha Davies).

Emma married Isaac Whiting, a widower, on 8 July 1875 in Birmingham and soon after they emigrated to Otago and settled in Dunedin.

When Emma signed the suffrage petition they were living in Caversham Rise, Dunedin.

Isaac died in 1902 and Emma died on 13 August 1918 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
