Eunice Jane Canton was born in 1871 in Ngatimoti, near Motueka, to Mary and George Canton. She was 21 when she signed the Women’s Suffrage Petition, and it appears her mother Mary signed as well. The following year Eunice married Walter Webster, a labourer, and they settled in Blenheim. They had two sons, Clarence and Leonard. Eunice died suddenly in 1903 at the age of 32.
