Biography contributed by Bernadette Siebert
Eva Turner was born in 1870 in Port Albert to James Gould Turner and his wife Emma nee Gubb. James and Emma were both from the south of England and met and married in Victoria, Australia. James followed the gold rush, and they had eight children born in various places around Victoria.
James and Emma brought their family to Auckland around 1870 and settled in Port Albert where four more children were born. Eva was the eldest of these. In 1909 Eva moved with her parents to Auckland, after they sold the farm in Port Albert. Unfortunately, three weeks later, her mother died. Eva lived with her father at their new home in Clark Street, Mt Eden until he died in 1916. She spent the last part of her life in the Costley Home for the Poor, in Epsom (The institution was renamed the Auckland Infirmary in 1924, reducing some of the stigma attached to recipients of its charitable aid.)
Eva died 4 September 1925 'at Epsom Infirmary. Eva Turner; aged 55 years; seventh daughter of the late J. G. and Emma Turner, late of Port Albert. Private interment.' She was buried in the Waikumete Cemetery.
After Eva died, her eldest brother Martin made an affidavit, stating that Eva left no will, listing her siblings and stating her estate was worth 700 pounds.
Eva is the daughter of 24 Emma TURNER Port Albert
