Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Frances/Fanny Hordern was born in 1858 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of Thomas William Hordern, a plumber, and Betsy Hilton.

She came to Otago with her parents in 1863 and they settled in Dunedin.

Frances married Thomas Dawsett, a coach painter, on 15 January 1881 in Dunedin and they had three children.

When Frances signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Forbury Road.

Their only son Percy was killed in action during WWI and Thomas died at their home in 1920.

Frances died on 10 July 1936, she is buried with Thomas in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
