Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Florence Mary Jarvis was born in Surrey, England in 1870 – the daughter of Richard Jarvis, a labourer at an iron works, and Mary Ann Hayward.

Florence emigrated to Otago with her parents and younger sister in 1874 on the 'Buckinghamshire'.

The family settled in Dunedin and when Florence signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Surrey St, Kew working as a tailoress.

She married Christian George Otto Naumann, a post office clerk, on 18 November 1896 at St Peter’s Church, Caversham.

They had four children and lived in Dunedin until the 1920s when they retired to Whanganui.

They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1946.

Florence died in 1955 and Christian died in 1959, they were both cremated and, presumably, interred in the Aramoho Cemetery, Whanganui.
