Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Florence Lillian Lack was born on 21 July 1869 in Dunedin – the daughter of Thomas Lack, a sign writer, and Georgina Elizabeth Ballinger.

Florence came from a musical family and, in 1883, she played a violin solo at the YMCA Youths’ Mission Service entertainment.

Her mother died in 1884 and when Florence signed the suffrage petition she was living with her father in Stuart St, Dunedin.

Florence did not marry, she died at Ross Home, Dunedin on 17 April 1955.

She was cremated and her ashes are interred in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
