Frances Barr was born in 1866 in New Zealand – the fifth daughter of John Barr and Christina Gordon.
She married Ewen Greville Macpherson, a compositor and journalist, in 1889 and they had 10 children.
Their daughters were named Tui, Weka, Roa, Ruru, Miro and Huia – the sons were named Greville, Douglas, Ewen and John.
When Frances signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Gore.
They later moved to Wyndham where Frances died at her home on 9 September 1924 and Ewen died in 1934 – they are buried in the family grave in the Wyndham Cemetery.
