Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Fanny Heath was born in 1862 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of Joseph Heath and Mary Ann Matilda Chesterman.

She married James John Wingham, an engine driver, on 3 March 1879 in North Otago.

They had 12 children and when Fanny signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Gore.

They later moved to Timaru where James died in 1915 and Fanny died on 30 June 1917 – they are buried together in the Timaru Cemetery.

Her obituary said she “was an artiste of more than ordinary ability and her paintings were much admired and highly prized.”
