Biography contributed by Jacqui Beets

Frances (“Fannie/Fanny”) Provis Searancke was born on 10 February 1868, the daughter of Irish immigrant Francis “Frank” Charsley Searancke (1839–1924) and English-born Mary Jane Geange (1842–1926). The family lived at Ebdentown, Upper Hutt.

Fannie signed the suffrage petition at Bulls in 1893, at which time she was a general servant residing at Levin. In 1899 she moved to Silverstream, Upper Hutt, where she was employed as a lady help. Electoral rolls after 1906 show her residence as Wallaceville, Upper Hutt, no occupation recorded.

Fannie Searancke did not marry. She passed away on 9 September 1943, and is buried at Upper Hutt’s Wallaceville Cemetery.
