Fanny Prior was born in 1846 in Berkshire, England – the daughter of Henry Prior, an agricultural labourer, and Jane Collins. 

She married, bricklayer, George Albery in 1868 in Hampshire and, in 1873 they boarded the Dover Castle bound for Otago. 

Her father and three sisters, accompanied by their families, followed the next year. 

George died in 1890 and when Fanny signed the suffrage petition she was living in Dundas St, Dunedin with their adopted daughter Lily. 

Fanny died at her home on 25 September 1897 – she is buried with George in the Northern Cemetery.
