Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ada Mary Ann Florence Child (known as Florence) was born in 1868 in Surrey, England – the daughter of George Child, a house painter, and Victoria Josephine Rosaline Hooker.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the Wild Deer and they settled in Dunedin.

Florence married John Dodds, a machinist, on 21 December 1887 and they had two children.

When Florence signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cargill Rd, South Dunedin.

In 1904 they moved to Wellington where John died in 1944, he was cremated & his ashes buried in the Karori Cemetery.

Florence died on 9 April 1950, she was also cremated.
